To promote the sport of scuba diving and underwater activities in Manitoba through safety, advocacy, environmental awareness, self-governance …
and, of course, fun.
Our membership includes Recreational and Professional Divers from newly certified Open Water Divers, Master Scuba Divers to Instructors of all levels and experience. We maintain an open atmosphere where divers exchange ideas and share their experiences that serve to remind each other of the importance of safety above all else.
MUC is an Advisory Board, not a policing group or policy maker. We are managed by a volunteer board of directors elected at the spring Annual General Meeting & Elections. We are only as strong as our membership and to that end we encourage feedback from our members to express ideas and issues affecting the sport.
We are an authority and advocate for underwater sports in Manitoba. Through our web site, newsletters, events and relationship with Manitoba Government agencies we represent underwater sport; specifically, with Manitoba Conservation, Water Safety Coalition and Sport Manitoba.
Sport Manitoba is the lead planning, programming and funding agency for the development of amateur sport in Manitoba. As a non-profit organization, Sport Manitoba creates and manages sport programs and services and partners with more than 100 sports organizations including Manitoba Underwater Council.
The Manitoba Underwater Council is one of the sports organizations under Sport Manitoba and as such is operated under their rules and regulations. .
We care about our environment. At MUC, we see it as our responsibility to keep our waters and dive areas clean and safe. MUC is an active supporter of Project Aware, an international foundation with an ever-growing movement of scuba divers protecting the ocean planet – one dive at a time. Proud of over two decades of underwater conservation divers are true ambassadors of ocean protection numbering in the millions around the globe. We believe that together our actions make a positive impact and we will succeed in rescuing our oceans and lakes.
We're divers and we love to travel and dive the world's oceans and lakes. When we travel we can be advocates of the Project Aware movement and principles to ensure we always do what we can to protect and conserve the waters we dive. At home we maintain our dive sites so they're always clean and safe. When we're done diving for the day, our dive sites are left in as good or better condition than when we started. That's how Manitoba Underwater Council makes a difference.
In support of Project Aware, MUC sponsors Beach and Marina Clean up dives at West Hawk Lake. Our goal is to remove as much litter and debris as we can find in both Crescent Beach and the Marina area. We collect all of the recovered material, record it and arrange to have it recycled or placed in the landfill where it belongs. We also report the results of our effort to Project Aware to let them know, even though were land locked and a long way from the Oceans that surround us, we still do our part.
